Westbury Wanderers Netball Team get off to flying start for winter season!
Astra Sponsored Westbury Wanderers Netball Team have got off to a great start in their new winter season by winning their first two Monday night matches.
Success in their first two matches
The winter season kicked off on 9th September, when Westbury Wanderers played against ‘The Bees’, in a hard-fought opening match played in Bristol. After losing the first quarter, Westbury came back to win in a close 31-28 victory.
The Team which only got together last year, had a great start to their ‘Back to Netball’ endeavour by winning in their league in their first winter season, so there’s high expectations ahead.
Earlier this week they played their second Monday night game, and encountered a talented team known as the ‘Outlaws’. They got off to a poor start and were losing at half time by 15-9. After some inspiring talk on the side-lines, they had a storming 3rd and final quarter and came off court with a final victorious score of 25-20. A great result!
Annie Gibson, Team Captain said ‘ I can’t believe we won tonight. We started off so badly, and the opposition were very strong. The girls came together in the 2nd half and had to fight hard to win. I’m absolutely delighted! We’ve been hit by some more injuries to our team, and haven’t had anyone on the bench tonight, so the pressure was on.’
The season will see Westbury Wanderers play a total of 9 matches which will end in the spring of next year. They next play on 21st October, against the ‘Mundies’.
Steve Bird, Operations Director for Astra Security said ‘ It’s an important part or our ethos to support local communities and up and coming sporting teams and individuals through sponsorship. We understand the importance of giving something back, and the positive impact that this can have. It’s great to see that Westbury Wanderers have had a successful start to their 2nd season of playing, and I’d like to wish them all the very best for the rest of the winter season.’
