Thermal cameras trialled at first UK Airport. Could this help end the lockdown?
Widespread news articles recently reported that the latest thermal camera technology is being used as part of a test being done at one UK Airport to help detect carriers of the Coronavirus before they infect others.
Bournemouth Airport will start checking passengers for signs of the deadly infection with thermal cameras which are capable of recording body temperatures and alerting border guards to anyone with a fever. The tripod-mounted cameras have been fixed to the airport’s staff entrance but will soon be installed at every entrance to the airport’s departures and arrivals terminals.
This could help businesses in adapting to life after the lockdown is lifted.
Matthew Stanley, Senior Account Manager at Astra Security said “This trial could certainly pave the way for other businesses. We may start to see this technology used across our schools, hospitals, restaurants and other public places. He went on to explain “The benefit of doing it this way is that they can detect very quickly, without the need for any physical contact and they’re extremely safe. On top of that, they can detect multiple people at the same time.”
Matthew is specially trained on thermal technology systems. A thermal camera can be used as part of a rapid deployment fever detection system providing the operator with a quick method for detecting fever and enabling the operator to protect both customers and staff members.
