Smart technology solutions strengthen security provision

We all know that the world has changed since March this year, and everyone is having to adapt. For the security industry, this has meant responding to a greater need for security planning to protect against the risk of the life-threatening coronavirus.

In these challenging times all organisations are adjusting to the ‘new normal’.  For those key workers who are having to monitor critical facilities, security measures are being assessed,  strengthened and redesigned, utilising a variety of technologies, including smarter access control systems.  Systems such as ‘customer flow control’  which can help monitor the number of people inside premises. It uses people counting, a dynamic display and real-time alerts to make sure that pre-defined capacity thresholds are never exceeded.

The use of thermal temperature monitoring is also being used. This helps identify an individual’s abnormal temperature, providing automatic and real-time alerts to on the ground security teams. These can detect very quickly, without the need for any physical contact, making them extremely safe.   Access points including door entry and turnstile controls can also be linked, to allow or automatically prevent clear passage to people of interest until they are tested.

Matthew Stanley, Senior Account Manager at Astra Security said “ The outbreak of the pandemic has resulted in everyone adapting and being more innovative to create security solutions.  The use of these new technologies is proof that our industry is working harder than ever in helping to provide a response to the present circumstances.”

Astra Security design, supply, install and maintain integrated security systems, including CCTV, remote monitoring, access control and more.
