Matthew Stanley of Astra Security explains how thermal camera technology could help in the fight against the spread of COVID-19
With the recent outbreak of COVID-19 challenging all of us, it’s good to see that security technology has a part to play - and in a positive way.
I caught up with Matthew Stanley, Senior Account Manager at Astra Security, to find out how the security industry could help in the fight against trying to control the spread of this virus.
Matthew explained, “Thermal cameras with high temperature accuracy have the ability to help detect higher body temperatures, which could indicate the presence of a fever. Something which could be very useful in the current situation. The cameras could then be used as part of any high- level fever screening process in public places, such as airports, stations, schools, shopping centres and office buildings. He went on to add, “As they can detect very quickly, without the need for any physical contact they’re extremely safe. Additionally, they can detect multiple people at the same time.”
Matthew recently underwent specialist training on thermal technology systems, run in conjunction with one of their partners, DVS Ltd. A thermal camera can be utilised as part of a rapid deployment fever detection system providing the operator with a quick method for detecting fever and enabling the operator to protect both customers and staff members.
